Avro to Bijoy Converter | অভ্র টু বিজয়

The Avro to Bijoy converter takes Bangla text typed on the Avro keyboard into Bijoy (SutonnyMJ) format — for press, publishing, InDesign or MS Word work. Paste your text into the Unicode box above and the Bijoy version is produced immediately.

One Thing to Get Clear First

Many people assume Avro is a separate encoding, the way Bijoy is. It is not — Avro is only a keyboard layout, and what you produce by typing on it is Unicode.

So what people mean by "Avro to Bijoy" is, technically, a Unicode to Bijoy conversion. That is why this one tool handles every kind of Unicode Bangla — text typed in Avro, copied from a website, taken from Wikipedia, or typed on a phone. Nothing different is needed for any of them.

Steps to Convert

  1. Copy your Avro-typed text — from Word, Notepad, Facebook or anywhere else.
  2. Paste it into the Unicode box above; the Bijoy version appears in the box beside it.
  3. Click the blue Copy button to take the text.
  4. Paste it into MS Word or InDesign and select SutonnyMJ as the font.
  5. If you notice anything wrong in a conjunct, press Fix Broken Words once.

Pasting into the wrong box does not matter — the tool detects it and moves the text to the right side.

Does the Text Look Like English Afterwards?

That is normal, and nothing has gone wrong. Bijoy works on the ANSI system — the same bytes show as English letters in an English font and as Bangla in the SutonnyMJ font. Until the font is applied, the text will always look broken.

  • In MS Word: select the text, then choose SutonnyMJ from the font list. Press Ctrl+A first to apply it to the whole document.
  • In InDesign: paste into the text frame and apply SutonnyMJ from the Character panel.
  • If you do not have the font: SutonnyMJ comes with the Bijoy software and is Ananda Computers' own font — we do not distribute it. Details and free alternatives are on the SutonnyMJ font page.

To type in Unicode there is the online Avro keyboard, and to write on the Bijoy layout there is the Unicode Editor (Bijoy layout).

If Conjuncts Give You Trouble

In Unicode a conjunct is built by joining letters with hasant (্), but in Bijoy many conjuncts have their own single code. Reconciling the two systems can leave a word or two mis-shaped.

  • After converting, press Fix Broken Words once.
  • Before printing, check words containing ত্ন, ্ব, ্র, ্য — for example যত্ন, রত্ন, উচ্ছ্বাস, স্ত্রী.
  • For a long document, work paragraph by paragraph — mistakes are much easier to spot.

Who Uses This Conversion

Journalists and compositors — writing copy quickly in Avro and taking it into the press's Bijoy-based layout. Publishers — placing a Unicode manuscript from an author into a book's typesetting. Offices — where old templates are built around SutonnyMJ. Teachers and students — submitting question papers or reports in a required font.

For a long document you can upload a .docx with Open File — the bold, italic and table formatting survives the conversion, so the whole layout does not have to be rebuilt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Avro to Bijoy conversion free?

Yes, completely free, and no registration is needed.

Is Avro a separate encoding?

No. Avro is a keyboard layout, and the text it produces is Unicode. So "Avro to Bijoy" is really a Unicode to Bijoy conversion.

Why does the text look broken after converting?

Bijoy works on the ANSI system. Select the text and apply the SutonnyMJ font and it will appear as Bangla.

Can I go the other way, from Bijoy to Avro?

Yes. Avro means Unicode, so just use Bijoy to Unicode — the result is the same Unicode you would get by typing in Avro.

Can I convert a whole file at once?

Yes. Use Open File to upload a .docx or .txt, and the formatting is kept through the conversion.

Is my text stored anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser and your text is never sent to a server — which matters for an unpublished manuscript.
