Conversion and typing

Bangla conversion engine

The Bijoy ⇄ Unicode mapping tables and conversion routines come from the bnwebtools project by S M Mahbub Murshed, used under the GNU General Public License. The original copyright and licence notice is preserved in the JavaScript we serve, and that JavaScript is the source form — you can read it directly at /assets/converter-js/.

UniJoy fixed layout

The Bijoy-style fixed keyboard layout used by the Unicode editor is derived from the m17n database's bn-unijoy input method, used under the GNU Lesser General Public License.

Avro phonetic

Phonetic typing follows the scheme popularised by Avro Keyboard from OmicronLab. Our implementation is independent; we are not affiliated with OmicronLab.

Data sources

Weather

Forecast data on Today's Weather comes from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway / Yr), used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). See api.met.no/doc/License. Data is fetched by our server on a schedule and re-served from our own domain, so MET Norway does not receive visitors' IP addresses.

Currency rates

Rates on the currency pages are indicative reference rates from public exchange-rate feeds. They are not a dealing quotation and will differ from the rate offered by your bank or exchange house. For official Bangladesh figures, see Bangladesh Bank.

Calendars and prayer times

Bangla, Hijri and Gregorian dates are computed from published calendrical algorithms. Prayer times are calculated astronomically for the district you select and may differ by a minute or two from your local mosque, which is the authority to follow.

Fonts

The free Bangla fonts offered on Bangla font download are redistributed under their own licences:

  • SIL Open Font License 1.1 — Noto Sans Bengali, Noto Serif Bengali, Hind Siliguri, Baloo Da 2, Tiro Bangla, Atma, Galada, Mina, Lohit Bengali
  • GNU GPL with font exception — Mukti
  • Free to use and distribute — Kalpurush, AdorshoLipi, Siyam Rupali
  • Ekushey project, free — SolaimanLipi, Charu Chandan
  • Bangladesh Computer Council, free — Nikosh

ANSI “Bijoy-family” fonts such as SutonnyMJ are the property of Ananda Computers and are not licensed by us. They are named on this site only so you can identify which font a legacy document needs; obtain them from their owner under that owner's terms.

Trademarks

Bijoy and SutonnyMJ are products of Ananda Computers. Avro and Avro Keyboard are products of OmicronLab. Windows and Word are trademarks of Microsoft. All other marks belong to their respective owners. BanglaConverter is independent of, and not endorsed by, any of them.
