SutonnyMJ Font Download — What You Need to Know

SutonnyMJ is the best-known Bangla font in Bangladesh's print shops and offices — but it is part of the Bijoy software, a commercial font copyrighted by Ananda Computers. So we do not distribute it; the legal way to get it is to buy Bijoy Bayanno or Ekattor. What this page can do is explain why SutonnyMJ text breaks online, and point you to free Unicode fonts that look close to it.

Why Does SutonnyMJ Text Break Online?

SutonnyMJ is an ASCII font — the Bangla letters sit on the character codes of English letters. So if the font is not installed, or you paste the text into Facebook or a website, it breaks into gibberish like Avwg. There are two ways out:

  1. Convert old SutonnyMJ text to Unicode: paste it into our Bijoy to Unicode converter and you get Unicode Bangla that works everywhere. For the other direction (press work) use Unicode to Bijoy.
  2. Write new text in Unicode: if you are used to Bijoy, type on the Bijoy (UniJoy) layout in our Unicode Editor — the output is Unicode and will not break anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can SutonnyMJ be downloaded free?

The file turns up on various sites, but those are unauthorised copies and carry a virus risk. The legal route is to buy the Bijoy software. The Unicode alternatives are completely free and safe.

What is the difference between SutonnyMJ and Unicode?

In SutonnyMJ the word আমি is actually stored as Avwg — change the font and the text breaks. In Unicode আমি is stored as the letters themselves, so it displays correctly in any font on any device.
