Which Rate Applies When
"Today's rate" in Bangladesh actually means several different rates. Which one applies to you depends on whether you are sending money home or buying foreign currency:
| Rate | Who it is for | Typically |
|---|---|---|
| Interbank / mid-market | The market benchmark — the rate banks trade with each other at | The rate shown on this site |
| Bank buying rate | Expatriates — the rate you get when sending remittance | Differs from bank to bank |
| Bank selling rate | Importers, students, Hajj and travel — buying currency | Higher than interbank |
| Open market | Cash currency from a money exchange | Moves the most |
The official interbank rates (bid, ask and weighted average) are published every working day by Bangladesh Bank.
Where These Rates Come From
The rates shown are the international mid-market rate — the midpoint between buying and selling. Our server refreshes them several times a day and caches them, so the page loads instantly. The taka moves during the day, so treat these as a guide rather than a live tick.
Remember: banks, money exchanges and remittance houses add their own commission and spread, so what actually reaches you may be a little more or less. Check the specific bank or exchange's own rate before a transaction.
How People Use It
For expatriates: see what Saudi riyal, dirham, ringgit or Kuwaiti dinar comes to in taka before you send it. For students: work out tuition or application fees in taka. For business: price imports and exports, and check a supplier's quotation.
To write an amount out in words use Number to Bangla Words (for cheques and invoices), and for land calculations use the Land Converter. For today's prayer times see Namaz Time.

Banks and exchange houses keep separate buying and selling rates after their own commission. Those can be a little above or below the mid-market rate shown here.
Which rate applies to remittance?

Where can I find the official rate?
Bangladesh Bank publishes the interbank bid, ask and weighted average every working day on its website.
How often are the rates updated?
Our server fetches them several times a day, every six hours. The time of the last update is shown under the table.
