Bangla is written on computers in two incompatible ways. Older documents, and most work produced in government offices, publishing houses and print shops in Bangladesh, use Bijoy — an ANSI layout where the bytes are really Latin characters that only look like Bangla when a font such as SutonnyMJ is installed. Everywhere else — Facebook, email, websites, phones, Google Docs — uses Unicode, which works without any special font.
Move text between those two worlds and it breaks. A Bijoy document pasted into Facebook becomes Avgvi †mvbvi evsjv. Unicode Bangla pasted into an old layout file becomes a mess of boxes.
BanglaConverter exists to make that crossing painless, in a browser, for free — and then to cover the rest of everyday Bangla writing: typing without a Bangla keyboard, checking spelling, counting words, writing an application letter in the right format, converting dates and numbers.
BanglaConverter is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Ananda Computers (makers of Bijoy and SutonnyMJ) or OmicronLab (makers of Avro Keyboard). We name those products only to describe what our tools are compatible with, so you can find the right tool for the file in front of you.
The site is operated by Tech Interval LLC, 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Ste R, Albuquerque, NM 87110, United States.
