How the Times Are Calculated

The times are worked out from the sun's position (declination and the equation of time) using the standard astronomical formulae, following the conventions used in Bangladesh:

  • Fajr and Isha: when the sun is 18° below the horizon.
  • Asr: in the Hanafi view, when an object's shadow is twice its own length (in the Shafi'i view, equal to it — you can switch above).
  • Maghrib: sunset; Dhuhr: after the sun passes its zenith.
  • Caution: prayer start times are rounded up and the end of Sehri is rounded down, so that no waqt is ever shown as starting earlier than it does.

Please note: these can differ by a minute or two from the Islamic Foundation's printed timetable, which adds its own margin. Use the "Adjust" field above to add or subtract minutes if you need to. For anything final about fasting and prayer, follow your local mosque's announcement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the times work without an internet connection?

Yes. The calculation happens in your browser and does not depend on any server or outside website. Once the page is open, the times keep working offline.

Which are the Sehri and Iftar times?

Sehri ends when Fajr begins, and Iftar is at Maghrib. During Ramadan those two are shown separately at the top.

Why is the time in my area slightly different?

Times depend on longitude — sunrise comes earlier in the east (Sylhet) and later in the west (Khulna). Choose your own district for the closest times.
