Bangla Font Converter | বাংলা ফন্ট কনভার্টার
The Bangla font converter changes Bangla text from one font system into another — mainly between Bijoy (SutonnyMJ) and Unicode, in both directions. Paste into either box above and the tool works out which system your text is in, then converts accordingly.
The whole job runs in your browser — your text is never sent to a server, so confidential office and personal documents are safe to convert here.
Bangla Fonts Come in Two Kinds
Almost every Bangla font problem comes back to one thing — not all Bangla fonts work the same way. Broadly, there are two groups:
| Kind | Examples | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| ANSI / legacy | SutonnyMJ, SutonnyOMJ and the other Bijoy fonts | Shows Bangla only if the font is installed; without it, the text looks like broken English letters |
| Unicode | Nikosh, SolaimanLipi, Kalpurush, Noto Sans Bengali | Displays correctly on any device, with no font needed |
This tool converts between ANSI (Bijoy) and Unicode. So taking SutonnyMJ text into Unicode, or making Unicode text ready for SutonnyMJ — both are handled here.
How to Tell Which Kind Your Text Is
Before converting, you need to know which system your text is in. A few simple signs:
- The text looks like English letters (
Avwg evsjvq, for example) — that is Bijoy/ANSI. It needs converting to Unicode. - Bangla displays properly on a website, Facebook or a phone — that is Unicode. For press work it needs converting to Bijoy.
- Changing the font in Word changes the letters — ANSI. Unicode text stays the same when you change font; only its appearance changes.
- If you are not sure — paste it into either box above; the tool detects it and moves it to the right side.
Which Group the Popular Bangla Fonts Fall Into
| Font | System | Typically used in |
|---|---|---|
| SutonnyMJ | ANSI (Bijoy) | Newspapers, publishing, older office records |
| Nikosh | Unicode | Government paperwork — the Bangladesh government's standard font |
| SolaimanLipi | Unicode | Websites, blogs, general writing |
| Kalpurush | Unicode | Popular for reading on screen |
| Noto Sans Bengali | Unicode | Mobile and the modern web |
Important: Nikosh, SolaimanLipi and Kalpurush are all Unicode fonts. There is no need to "convert" between them — just change the font in Word or your design software and the text stays the same. Conversion is only needed when ANSI (Bijoy) is on one side.

Steps to Convert
- Copy the text from wherever it is — MS Word, a website, Facebook or an old file.
- Paste it into either box above. The wrong box does not matter — the tool moves it for you.
- The result appears immediately in the other box — click the blue Copy button to take it.
- For a Bijoy result, paste into Word and select SutonnyMJ as the font; a Unicode result needs nothing at all.
- If a conjunct looks broken, press Fix Broken Words once.
Which Converter Do You Need, and When?
Step-by-step instructions, font setup and fixes for each direction are on their own pages:
- Old Bijoy text onto the web → Bijoy to Unicode
- Web text ready for print → Unicode to Bijoy
- Avro-typed text into Bijoy → Avro to Bijoy
- To type Bangla → Avro Keyboard or the Unicode Editor
What Does Not Convert
In fairness it is worth saying plainly — every ANSI font has its own separate mapping. This tool is built around the Bijoy (SutonnyMJ) mapping, so text in a different ANSI font (Boishakhi or Bornosoft, say) will not convert correctly here. It may look like Bangla, but the letters will be wrong.
Pulling text out of a photo or a scanned page is a different job — use Bangla OCR (image to text) for that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Bangla font converter cost anything?
No. It is completely free, needs no registration, and nothing has to be installed.
What if I need to go from Nikosh to SutonnyMJ?
Nikosh is a Unicode font, so that is really a Unicode to Bijoy conversion. Paste your text into the box above to get the Bijoy version, then apply the SutonnyMJ font in Word.
How do I convert from SolaimanLipi to Kalpurush?
You do not need to convert at all — both are Unicode fonts. Just change the font name in Word or your design software and the text stays exactly as it is.
Why does my text look like English letters?
It is ANSI (Bijoy) text and your device does not have the SutonnyMJ font. Convert it to Unicode and it will display correctly on any device.
Can I convert a whole Word file at once?
Yes. Use the Open File button to upload a .docx or .txt — bold, italic and table formatting is kept through the conversion.
Does my text go to your server?
No. The whole conversion happens in your browser, so confidential documents stay safe.
