Typing speed requirements in Bangladesh government exams
Many Bangladesh government recruitment tests set explicit typing minimums. Commonly cited requirements for computer operator, office sohayok and data-entry posts are around 20 WPM in Bangla and 20 WPM in English, with some posts (e.g. computer operator) asking 25–30 WPM in English. Tests usually run 5–10 minutes on unfamiliar text, so practise fixed durations, not just one-minute sprints: try the 5 minute English test or the 5-minute Bangla typing test.
For Bangla typing, exam centres commonly use the Bijoy layout — our Bangla Typing Test has a built-in Bijoy (UniJoy) mode plus Avro Phonetic, so you can practise either system without installing anything.
How WPM is measured
The international standard counts every 5 characters (including spaces) as one "word" — so "typing test now" is 16 characters ≈ 3.2 words regardless of the actual word count. This keeps scores fair between texts with long and short words, and it is exactly how our English typing test scores you. Only correctly typed characters count, so errors reduce both your WPM and your accuracy percentage.
Net WPM vs gross WPM: gross counts everything you typed; net subtracts errors. Serious tests (including ours) report net-style scores — that is the number employers care about.
